Last Updated: September 26, 2026  |  Effective: March 17, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Church Canopy website, mobile applications (iOS and Android), application programming interfaces ("APIs"), or any related services (collectively, the "Service"), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, you must immediately cease all use of the Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and Church Canopy ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account, accessing the Service through a mobile application, or accepting an invitation from a Church Organization, you represent that you have the legal capacity and authority to enter into these Terms. If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of a Church Organization, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

You agree not to use the Service for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these Terms. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:

We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action against anyone who, in our sole discretion, violates this Acceptable Use Policy, including without limitation removing content, suspending or terminating accounts, and reporting violations to law enforcement.

6. User-Generated Content

The Service allows you to upload, submit, store, send, and receive content, including but not limited to text, images, audio files, video references, documents, chord charts, lyrics, and other materials ("User Content"). You retain all ownership rights in your User Content.

By uploading or submitting User Content to the Service, you grant Church Canopy a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, process, and display your User Content solely to the extent necessary to provide, maintain, and improve the Service. This license includes the right to:

  • Store and transmit your content through our designated third-party infrastructure providers;
  • Process audio files through AI-powered stem separation and notation services upon your explicit request;
  • Generate thumbnails, previews, or metadata from your content for display within the Service;
  • Enable sharing of content with other authorized members of your Church Organization as configured by your Church Administrator.

This license terminates when you delete your User Content from the Service or when your account is terminated, except to the extent that (a) content has been shared with other users who have not deleted it, (b) content exists in routine backup copies which are purged in the ordinary course within 30 days, or (c) the content has been anonymized and aggregated in a manner that does not identify you.

We may remove or refuse to display User Content that we reasonably believe violates these Terms, applicable law, or the rights of third parties, or that is flagged by our automated content moderation systems. We are not obligated to monitor or review User Content but reserve the right to do so at our sole discretion.

7. Copyright, Music Licensing, CCLI & Uploaded Media

7.1 No Copyright Licenses Granted by Church Canopy

Church Canopy is a platform tool that facilitates the organization, management, and sharing of worship-related content within Church Organizations. The Service does not grant, convey, or provide any copyright license, music license, performance license, mechanical license, synchronization license, or any other intellectual property right to any User or Church Organization. The Service is not a music publisher, distributor, or licensing body.

7.2 Church Organization Responsibility for Licensing

Each Church Organization using the Service is solely and exclusively responsible for:

  • Obtaining and maintaining all required copyright licenses, including but not limited to Church Copyright License (CCLI), CCLI Streaming License, CCLI Streaming Plus, PRS for Music, ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, or equivalent licensing in their jurisdiction;
  • Ensuring that all copyrighted materials uploaded to, stored in, or distributed through the Service — including audio recordings (MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, AAC, AIFF), chord charts, lead sheets, sheet music, vocal sheets, lyrics, Guitar Pro files, ChordPro files, and any other copyrighted works — are used in compliance with all applicable copyright laws and the terms of their music license;
  • Displaying proper copyright attribution on all reproduced works, including the required CCLI License number, song title, author(s), copyright holder, and "Used by Permission" notice;
  • Understanding that the U.S. Religious Service Exemption (17 U.S.C. § 110(3)) applies only to live performance of musical works during worship services and does NOT extend to the reproduction, recording, distribution, or digital transmission of copyrighted works;
  • Reporting song usage to CCLI or other applicable rights organizations as required by their license agreements;
  • Ensuring that any audio stems generated through the Service's AI-powered stem separation feature are used only within the scope of the Church Organization's existing licenses and are not redistributed, sold, or used for any commercial purpose outside of licensed worship activities.

7.3 User Certification Upon Upload

By uploading any content to the Service, you represent, warrant, and certify that:

  • You are the owner of the content, or you have obtained all necessary rights, licenses, consents, and permissions to upload, store, and share the content through the Service;
  • The content does not and will not infringe, misappropriate, or violate any third party's intellectual property rights, rights of privacy, rights of publicity, or any other proprietary or personal rights;
  • You understand that Church Canopy does not verify, validate, or audit copyright ownership or licensing status of any uploaded content;
  • You accept sole legal responsibility and liability for any claims, losses, or damages arising from the content you upload.

7.4 CCLI Numbers and Song Metadata

The Service provides fields for entering CCLI song numbers and other metadata for organizational purposes only. The presence of a CCLI number in the Service does not indicate that the song is licensed for use by any particular Church Organization, nor does it constitute verification of licensing status. Church Canopy has no direct integration with, affiliation with, endorsement by, or licensing relationship with CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International) or any other rights organization.

7.5 File Storage and Church-Owned Infrastructure

User-uploaded files, including but not limited to audio recordings, chord charts, lead sheets, sheet music, and other media ("User Files"), are stored in cloud storage accounts provisioned by or on behalf of the subscribing Church Organization ("Church Storage"). Church Storage may be provided through Cloudflare R2, Google Drive, or other supported storage providers, each configured and controlled by the Church Organization.

Church Canopy does not own, host, maintain permanent copies of, or exercise direct control over User Files stored in Church Storage. The Company's role is limited to facilitating the upload, organization, retrieval, and display of User Files through the Service platform. The Church Organization is the data controller and owner of all content stored in their Church Storage.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, Church Canopy maintains database records (metadata such as file names, types, sizes, and organizational references) that reference User Files, and may disable access to content through the Service upon receipt of a valid copyright complaint, legal order, or as otherwise required by law.

8. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Policy

8.1 Respect for Intellectual Property

Church Canopy respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects all users of the Service to do the same. We comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 ("DMCA"), 17 U.S.C. § 512, and respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable law.

8.2 DMCA Notice (Takedown Request)

If you believe that your copyrighted work has been copied or made available through the Service in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, you may submit a written notification to our designated DMCA Agent containing:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright interest;
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work(s) claimed to have been infringed;
  3. Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing, with sufficient detail to permit us to locate it within the Service;
  4. Your contact information, including name, address, telephone number, and email address;
  5. A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  6. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

8.3 Designated DMCA Agent

Our designated agent for receiving DMCA notices is:

DMCA Agent, Church Canopy
Email: dmca@worshipteamsync.com

8.4 Counter-Notification

If you believe that content you posted was removed or access to it was disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification to our DMCA Agent containing:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature;
  2. Identification of the material that was removed or to which access was disabled, and the location at which the material appeared before it was removed or access was disabled;
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification;
  4. Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or if outside the United States, any judicial district in which Church Canopy may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original DMCA notification or an agent of such person.

Upon receipt of a valid counter-notification, we will forward a copy to the original complainant and inform them that we may restore the removed content within 10–14 business days. If the copyright owner does not file a court action seeking a restraining order against the content provider within that period, we will restore access to the content.

8.5 Repeat Infringer Policy

In accordance with the DMCA and other applicable law, Church Canopy has adopted a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances and at our sole discretion, the accounts of users who are deemed to be repeat infringers. We may also, at our sole discretion, limit access to the Service and/or terminate the accounts of any users who infringe any intellectual property rights of others, whether or not there is any repeat infringement. A user may be deemed a repeat infringer if they are the subject of more than two (2) valid DMCA takedown notices within any twelve-month period.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service, including but not limited to its source code, object code, design, layout, look and feel, user interface, graphics, logos, trademarks, service marks, trade names, APIs, algorithms, data models, documentation, and all related intellectual property (collectively, "Company IP"), is owned by Church Canopy or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for its intended purpose, subject to these Terms. This license does not include any right to:

  • Copy, modify, or distribute the Company IP or create derivative works based upon the Company IP;
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service;
  • Use any data mining, robots, or similar data gathering or extraction methods on the Service;
  • Sublicense, lease, sell, or otherwise transfer any rights to the Service to any third party;
  • Use the Company IP to build or contribute to a competing product or service.

The Service may incorporate open-source software components, which are subject to their respective open-source licenses. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under, or grants you rights that supersede, the terms of any applicable open-source license.

If you provide feedback, suggestions, ideas, or recommendations regarding the Service ("Feedback"), you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, modify, and incorporate such Feedback into the Service without any obligation or compensation to you.

10. Subscriptions, Pricing & Payments

The Service offers both free and paid subscription tiers. Details of available plans, features, pricing, and AI credit allocations are described on our website and within the Service. Prices are displayed in United States Dollars (USD) and charged in your local currency at checkout, converted at prevailing exchange rates by our payment processor.

For paid subscriptions:

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date;
  • You authorize us (or our third-party payment processor) to charge your designated payment method for recurring fees;
  • We will provide at least 30 days' notice before any price increase takes effect; continued use after the price change constitutes acceptance;
  • Refunds are provided at our sole discretion; no refunds are provided for partial billing periods or unused AI credits;
  • AI credits are non-transferable and may expire at the end of the billing period as described in the applicable plan terms.

10.1 Mobile App Store Purchases

If you purchase a subscription or in-app purchase through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, the purchase is subject to the terms and conditions of the respective app store, including their refund policies. Payment will be charged to your app store account. Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your app store account settings.

11. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through the Service's account settings or by contacting us at support@worshipteamsync.com. Account deletion is also available directly within the mobile application.

  • Files stored in your Church Organization's Church Storage remain under the control of the Church Administrator;
  • Routine backup copies will be purged within 30 days of deletion;
  • This action is irreversible and we cannot recover deleted accounts or data.

12. Termination & Suspension

We may suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including but not limited to:

  • Violation of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy;
  • Receipt of valid DMCA takedown notices or other copyright complaints (see Section 8.5, Repeat Infringer Policy);
  • Activity that poses a security risk to the Service or other users;
  • Activity that may subject Church Canopy or any third party to legal liability;
  • Extended period of inactivity exceeding 24 months;
  • Failure to pay applicable fees when due;

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 6 (User Content license grants), 7 (Copyright), 8 (DMCA), 9 (Intellectual Property), 13 (Disclaimers), 14 (Limitation of Liability), 15 (Indemnification), and 16 (Dispute Resolution) survive termination.
